Infrared testing

The STARMANS Innovative DIO 4000 Automated Infrared Testing Device For Billets is designed for non-destructive thermo-graphic surface inspection of steel round and square bars. For defect detection the system uses pulsed HF current for heating the material under inspection and when the defect is appeared it changes the temperature profile in the defect area. These changes of temperature are visualized by infrared high-speed cameras. The main advantages of the infrared system are excellent flaw detection sensitivity in both transversal and longitudinal directions, non-contact method, that safes inspection costs and time.

New generation:

The STARMANS electronics during many years of research and experience has already developed the second generation of HF Coils. This second generation uses only one coil to cover the whole range of tested round and square bars. Not needed to change the HF coils for different sizes of billets.

Mechanics:

The system contains from a rigid mechanical frame, with mounted infrared cameras. The main advantage of the mounted cameras is that they can be automatically adjusted. For the appropriate heating of material surface, the coil has to be in the center of the material. For this requirement the frame is automatically adjusted. Before the billets are going through coil the surface is wetted by steam to ensure a homogenous heating of the material surface.

Control and Software:

The system is controlled by PLC Siemens using a touch screen panel. The software fully controls the system as automatic adjusting of cameras, automatic centring billets to the coil centre and marking of found defects.

Records:

The system enables to make analysis, statistics, and reports for further evaluation, large data basis and printing. The records can be arranged according to a customer´s special request.
